Windows 10 at six months: Ready for primetime?
Windows 10 has been available to the public for six months this week. By the numbers, it's been a hit, with 200 million active users as of the first of the year. Here's my midterm report.
On the new feature front, the ability to get notifications on a PC from Windows 10 Mobile is part of this build. (This feature was previously available for those using Android phones.) Notifications include things like missed calls, messages from social media and other sources and critical alerts.
The ability to send a photo from a phone to a PC using Cortana is part of the latest mobile build too. Windows 10 Mobile testers can say, via Cortana, "Send this photo to my PC" to enable the action.
There are a lot of fixes in 14356, listed in Microsoft's blog post, including a number of fixes around app crashes; the Glance screen; Camera app launching and more.
On the known issues front, Microsoft is "continuing to investigate battery life issues impacting certain devices. We have fixed a few bugs that improve battery life but we have more work to do here," said author of the blog post, new Windows Insider chief Dona Sarkar.Sarkar officially took the reins of the Windows Insider program from Gabe Aul on June 1.
Microsoft released the Windows 10 PC Build 14352 for PCs to testers late last week.
