The family of Katie May is hoping to settle legal matters out of court in regard
to the 34-year-old Playboy model's death.
According to the Los Angeles coroner's report obtained by ET, May died "from infraction of the brain along with vertebral artery dissection" and a "blunt force injury of the neck." The model's death has been ruled accidental with the cause of death stemming from "neck manipulation from a chiropractor."
"The coroner's report takes the unusual but definitive step of concluding the chiropractor's treatment was the cause and fact of Katie May's death," Ronald Richards, the lawyer representing May's estate, tells ET. "We have been in contact with a legal representative for the chiropractor and expect to submit a demand shortly with the chiropractor's insurance carrier. We are hopeful that the chiropractor will want to resolve the matter to avoid further injury to all parties to this unfortunate tragedy."
May died in February and at the time of her death, her family told ET that her death came after she suffered from a "catastrophic" stroke after injuring her neck during a photo shoot.
In addition to taking legal action against the chiropractor, May's family also set up a GoFundMe page to help support the costs of raising her 7-year-old daughter, Mia.
